School's out. Finals have come and gone. Summer is here, and what better place to spend it than one of the most beautiful places in the world? I'd have to say, life is good.
As most may know, I am now working on the program staff at Cannon Beach Christian Conference Center in Oregon. I am a leader in the K2 department, which consists of fourth and fifth graders, and so far my time has been consumed by hanging out with kids, teaching them lessons about God, making new friends, and skimboarding almost every day at the beach! Everyone here is great, and everything about this conference center and this town is amazing. However, although it is a huge blessing to be here given this awesome opportunity, my life is still far from "perfect".
First. I am now a junior in college; hence, it is time to declare a major. Great. Right now, I am intending to apply to both the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering departments at the UW.
The application is due in about 24 hours.
Second. I teach a lesson today, as well as tomorrow, the latter of which I haven't prepared yet. Yikes. Another thing to add to the list.
Third. Just the other day, one of our staff leaders came to me and a few friends, asking if we can lead worship for SNL (Sunday Night Live), a sunday night service for staff members. So, we said yes, and therefore have about 24 hours to prepare a 7-song set list, with five people who have never practiced together. Stress level increased. . . . . Upgrade!
I bring all these things up for a reason. Not so others can have sympathy for me, but to simply share something that has recently been encouraging in my life. Ever since finals week of this last quarter, one verse in particular has stuck with me, and I am reminded of it every time I feel swamped, stressed, or just physically and emotionally drained.
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
- Matthew 6:34
I encourage others to really reflect on this verse. It speaks so much truth. Why worry about tomorrow? Tomorrow will come. . . eventually. For now, focus on today, and focus on God. You might be surprised by the difference it makes.
